The Women of Krav Maga

T
his clip comes from the TV show Fight Quest which features a pair of martial artists who travel the world exploring martial arts from various countries. Here Doug Anderson trains with Avivit Oftek Cohen, a master in the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga.
Cohen’s methods are basic, direct and unflinching…and they’re adjustable to facing either one - or many – attackers. Her approach isn’t recreational; hers is a “war art” mentality, a kind of training that makes her students appreciate the pressure and trauma of real self defense situations. It reminds me of the prescription Kung Fu masters have for building strong students – “let them eat bitter”!

  2. Hi Gary,

I'm glad that you like the clip. I really respect what she does. I think she has a very honest and straightforward approach to self defense from which her students can only benefit. Girls and women of all ages need to see this in order to remind them that they can fight their way out from under somebody's else thumb whether that thumb belongs to a male or to a traditional institution. The world needs tons more women like Avivit!
